RULES &
AWARDS

We are still in awe about what the scene performed at X'24. In terms of rules & awards, the setup is mostly the same like previous years, but with an additional compo.

Introducing: The C64 Extended Compo!

A new competition focused around C64 Extensions and the Ultimate64/C64 Ultimate.
See below for details.

Respect Your Fellow Artists, Please do NOT wire or use AI

At X, we organize competitions for the best graphicians, coders, musicians, project leads, designers and organizers of the Commodore 64. It is only fair to respect the creativity and craft of creating original entries, without someone else or a computer doing the creative bit for you.

Since it is impossible to ojectively judge every entry pre-compo, we kindly request to explain your creative process in writing and share your workstages in a .zip file when submitting your graphics or petscii entry. Everything will be shared within the votox webapp with the voters during the party.

Logistics

Just use votox, but when in doubt find our compo master Burglar in the main hall on the balcony for any question relating to the deadlines, competitions and your entries.

As usual, advertised deadlines are not very strict, but please try to upload your entry early. It'll reduce stress for you as well as the compo orgs :)

C64 Extended

The C64 Extended Competition is a brand new compo for C64 related productions that do not fit in the other categories due to hardware constraints. It's a bit like a Wild Compo, but focused around the C64 itself.

In this compo, all C64 extensions are welcome: official, unofficial, homemade, you name it. Aslong as the core remains the C64 and/or 1541 (Freespin would qualify of course, as well as The Qweremin).

The Ultimate64/C64 Ultimate, its 48MHz and the Turbo Chameleon 64 are explicitely allowed in this competition.

IMPORTANT: Creators must supply a recording of their entry!

Check this CSDb thread if you're interested in the background and discussion about this compo.
If you are unsure if your entry meets the bar, feel free to contact us before the party.

  • The stock C64 or the Ultimate64/C64 Ultimate must be used
  • All C64 extensions are allowed, such as: REU, 2SID, FM-Yam, Easyflash, SuperCPU, TC64, etc
  • All types of C64 storage devices/enhancements are allowed, such as .d64, .d81, .crt, CMD devices, TapeCart, parallel cable, DOS/ROM/RAM enhancements, etc
  • Turbo modes are allowed (2 to 64MHz)
  • Interfacing with other devices is allowed
  • Submit entry as .prg, .d64, or .zip file containing required files for release
  • Deliver a video or a 50Hz capture of your entry running on real hardware in standard digital format
  • Please be willing to show your entry to visitors at the party on real hardware
